Even if the first grade teacher used it you still can. Use the lessons but different books when necessary. You can reuse other titles to teach different stratagies. k-2 at my school all use this books as a place to get ideas from. Children will be at a different point this year to hear the information again. YOu really can use th lessons and just find some different titles. As you hit a unit of study ask for suggestions on this board for that unit and you will get lots of ideas of books that could work!
IF you go to the second grade board I just poasted my first 18 lessons for readers workshop. I use a combo of Calkins and MIller. This year the leasons might be tweaked as I read Collins this summer. But it might give you some ideas for getting started.
It will all work out!
