What is the age of your fridge?

My FIL was a repairman and gave up the business due to the freeon (sp) regulations. If your fridge is very old, you are probably best to buy a new one. If it's not keeping cool, it's likely the compressor and once they go, the fridge is a goner. I hope you find someone and it's better news!
