This is what I do with my sixth graders... By iteachsixth

| I teach sixth grade and I have been using a point system the past few years where each of my four LA classes start out with 5 "class points" in the beginning of the class, I add points for different things (if they all have their materials ready, if they have been working quietly, cooperatively, etc), I keep a running total of points each class has earned on the board and the class with the most points at the end of the nine weeks wins a pizza party. Individually, I give "star cards" (slips of paper with a clipart star and space for their name) to students that were caught being good. At the end of class each day, the students that got a star card put it in a jar and on Fridays I pick 5 star cards and those students get to pick a prize from the prize bucket (items from Oriental Trading). I never empty the star card bucket, so they still have a chance the next week. Hope this helps.
