I have been through this. I remarried during Spring break. I changed my name right after the break. It was in the beginning of April. I didn't want to even hear my ex's name.Since it wasn't my name any more either, I told the kids I changed my name. They had a few slip ups, but it was okay. I would change it in the middle of the year. You don't want to have to answer to your ex's name. Answering the questions is easy. Tell them you got a divorce and you would appreciate it if they could practice calling you by your birth name.
My principal likes to call all of us female teachers by Ms. I think its so she doesn't have to learn who is who. I cannot stand to be called Ms.
