    Clip to ScrapBook

Before I moved this past November I had that class and I taught 3rd as well. I knew beforehand that the class was going to have problems behaviorally and academically. Their first teacher left during the school year, the next teacher had to take a medical leave and then it was substitutes the last two months of school. I agree with the other posts about asking how she went about her procedures and stuff so you could get an idea of what to expect from them. Going from 2nd to 3rd is a big jump and will be more responsibility anyways. I sat down with the one teacher (who left on medical leave) and asked her various questions about each student to get an idea of where they were and then when the school year started I taught rules and procedures almost everyday. I had a difficult class, it was good some days and then back downhill the next. If it did, I went back over the rules and even made them practice things. I have to admit I was worn out some days and unfortunately had to move in November but they had come a long way.
It really depends on how well you know this teacher to know how to approach it but still be careful. I would just make it seem like you're preparing for next year and need to know a little about each kid and what they're used to in her classroom. Also, try to "pop in" from time to time to borrow something, ask a question, etc. so the kids start noticing you as well (if it doesn't interfere with her).
