Our students know their scores, and so do the parents (from the scored tests). Each time I do a progress monitoring passage, my students know their scores as well. We graph the students' scores with them from all of the progress monitoring passages.
Oh yeah--another tip--when you are doing progress monitoring, be sure to use a little line/highlight at the benchmark on the passage. If you have a student close to benchmark (ours is 90 for second grade) I would mark the passage to show where 90 words is. Students know they are expected to read to this line. (Actually--I like to set it a little higher; closer to 95) It's VERY motivating for my kiddos!
