Parents don't like AR if their child is behind. They feel it stigmatizes them. AR is not really for a big grade (if at all) and it's not the focus of the reading curriculum, just an incentive to add to reading motivation. BUT it is somewhat expected as extra practice.

I would go in and delete that particular book of her AR score - I think you can get in there somewhere to do that - and this particular situation is not an issue. Print out her scores and tell the parent that she needs to read more carefully, for comprehension, synthesis, evaluation... (Bloom's) and that's the focus of her reading. Tell them you are wanting to see higher scores. From now on, she does the reading and AR tests. I think 30 pages is quite a bit, too, and would move to less next year or something.

The other thing is that she is a child that won't do this on her own, and her parents aren't concerned about her finishing homework obviously. Nobody is helping her out. Find a way to help her out.
