    letter grades

    I agree with using letter grades. When we use other indicators parent's seem to get more confused, need more explanation for their child's progress.
    We actually just did the reverse at our school. Our third grade was giving E, S, NI for grades and they have now changed to letter grades just like 4th and 5th. It helps us keep some cosistancy in the building.
