We all had the deadline of June 30, 2006, the date that the dreaded NCLB kicked in. After I missed the minimum score in my state for the Praxis II specialty test by 14 points, I learned that each state has set its own standard for "Highly Qualified." I live at the border of another state, so I can go there to teach and am considered to be "Highly Qualified" there. The real kicker was that I was teaching out of license in my home state, and I was asked to leave my job at the end of September because I didn't get the minimum score on the Praxis II. I am now enjoying my time at home, but the money isn't coming in, and that worries my husband and me. It is tough living on only one income.

Don't lose faith. The tests can be taken again. If you don't pass the first time, you will pass the second time. I haven't known anybody who hasn't passed the second time.

I retook the portion that I didn't score well on. I am crossing my fingers, because I will get my score result in two weeks and hopefully will be able to get a job in my home state again.

What I suggest that you do is get a copy of a sample published book so that you can analyze the types of questions they offer and practice with that book. I did that, and while I didn't find the test extremely easy after that practice, at least some of the mystery of the test was removed, and I felt more confident. Confidence is a big part of the battle.

When you do take the test, it is probably timed. You will have to carefully pace yourself so that you can finish all of the questions on time. I kept one eye on the clock as I worked on the test, because I realized that anything that wasn't finished was automatically incorrect.

Good luck! Practice for the test and you will do fine! :)
