Reading help
By Lillie

Clip to ScrapBook
As a trained Reading Recovery teacher I have found the major focus for ALL children should ALWAYS be meaning. The number one question you should always ask a child when they stop is, "What would make sense?" Once they put in a word that makes sense enough times, you can add another question..."Does that look right?" (Does 'toy' start with a b? If not, what makes sense and starts with /b/?) "Try something that makes sense and looks right!" Most times the student will come up with the correct word.

I agree these students need LOTS of practice reading books they've already read successfully. It sounds like they need to be "challenged" with fewer "harder" books and work on meaning and fluency with "easier" books. Keep us posted on their progress!
