what time?
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I arrive at school about 6:55. We are required to sign in by 7:05. After 7:05, we are tardy, and our principal has a pet peeve about that.

If I don't have an after-school meeting or other event that makes me stay late,
I can leave at 2:35. On Fridays, our principal often lets us leave about 2:15. I usually beat a quick path out the door on Fridays, although I am usually at school even after 2:35 on Monday-Thursday.

I am an elementary school Spanish teacher this year, having taught 5th grade before this year. I don't take any work home anymore. I do lesson planning on Sunday evenings, usually,

and I do it on my computer.

When you do begin to work full-time in your own classroom, you will probably want to structure your time so that you don't become bogged down and burned out with too many things to do after school. I realize that some people love to spend a lot of time at school, and they don't mind taking stuff home with them, but you can come to resent your job after awhile if you spend too much time doing it. I used to spend a lot of after-school time doing schoolwork, then I began to realize I wasn't getting a life. It's important to find outlets outside of the school environment.
