Yuck!! That wasn't nice and certainly not necessary. You have received good advice about using call display, etc. You don't say what grade you teach, but if it is possible to show the mom with numbers, here is some advice for when you get back in January: I always tell both my students and their parents that I don't "give" them anything - the mark they received (good, mediocre(sp?) or bad) - is what that child EARNED. If you have marks, SHOW them. Numbers are just that - they have no emotion attached to them - if her little darling didn't do the work properly, the marks are the proof of it. Don't let the parents blame you for poor performance - print out the proof.
