Texas is not a bad place to teach; the standardized testing is what's bad. Even if you teach in a suburban district, you still have to deal with TAKS. Smaller kids have to be prepared for TAKS later, so even if you teach 2nd and younger, you still have to hear about TAKS, and you will still be pressured to help them do well.

Some districts are better to work in than others, but they are all faced with TAKS testing. A blue ribbon school will in general do better, and the kids will not be as stressed, but the TAKS is still there.
