Clip to ScrapBook
When I first started teaching last year, I expected my class to be silent the majority of the day. Man, was I in for a shocker! It's impossible for a class of 12 year olds to be quiet, so I can only imagine kindergarteners or first graders. Now I expect them to be quiet at certain times (I've used some of the techniques I learned from other teachers at this site), but as long as they're talking with low voices about what's going on in class, then I allow it. I've finally learned that it's okay for kids to be social. Sometimes the quietest classroom is one where not a lot of learning is going on, but noisy classrooms are engaged in learning. I know you want your kids to be quiet at certain times, but I thought I would explain what I learned too.
