Clip to ScrapBook
I only have 21 (which is enough in my opinion, sorry to hear about your 28). Doing a lot of small group activities takes more plan time but I try it as much as possible. As part of my LA(language arts) I usually do the
same 3-4 activities each day and rotate my groups. I also try to have various activities available for those students who work faster( which is also time consuming but pays off in the end when children aren't constantly saying "what do I do now" For my math, I try to incorporate small group activities as much as possible but that is not as much as I would hope (just too much to cover).
Again I try to take it slow but also let the students have some time to work on things on their own, that gives me free time to work with those struggling and then those who are finished early may do a variety of other activities. (examples, destination estimation, add & Subtract practice on laminated paper, pattern blocks, file folder activites etc)...hope this helps....oh and when i did my student teaching my teacher did small grouop rotation each day...she had an activity at several locations and every 10-? minutes she rotated the students. She then got to see each gruop each day and work on the various issues.
