book reports
By Cathy

Clip to ScrapBook
Of course students do not know how to write book reports. DO you have students learn each part of a book report first then have students slowly do parts on their own. You need to model each stage of a book report. Read
a couple of short childrens books. Make a graphic organizer for each part of a book report. TEach one topic and a time. THis will take a coupld of lessons. Teach character analysis, theme or moral of the story, Plot analysis, problem or situation that needs to be rsolved, irony, climax, etc. How to summarize the story and make connections. Use posters or brochures to represent each
section you want to teach. This takes lots of time and should be taught thoughout the year. I would start with character analysis and use graphic diagrams. Book reports don't have to be long. Good Luck
