Corporal punishment
By Patty

Clip to ScrapBook
It's sad to see that there are so many teachers that support this type of punishment. Physical discipline will never replace or supplement good classroom management. While I'm not accusing the original poster of child abuse
or anything of that nature, I must say that there are many other methods that can be utilized to resolve behavioral issues. Clearly, the parent has spanked this child before and it appears that those results produced good behavior for a short time. The problem with this type of discipline is that you have to keep doing it for it to be effective, which can seriously impact the student's
view of his/her school environment. My suggestion to the original poster and other teachers who advocate this type of discipline would be to research classroom management and discipline plans that are available. If your own discipline plans aren't working and you have to result to "spanking" I'd imagine it's time to reevaluate your classroom management techniques.
