Viking
By Faye Manyak

Clip to ScrapBook
I found a viking saga about a settlement in Vinland. After reading it and discussing the saga with a partner, I had each student make a postcard to an imaginary friend from Greenland. They were to design a Viking stamp, create an address, and write a message containing facts from their reading. On the reverse side, they drew a colored picture representing their idea of what the Viking colony liiked like.
This not only hit many S Studies standards, but it also hit English Language Arts standards as well. It's an enjoyable lesson for the kids.
