Clip to ScrapBook
Theme is the underlying idea of the story. The lesson you can learn from the book about life, friendships, love, people, etc.

Most books have more than one theme running throughout, but usually you can identify a main theme. Tuck Everlasting has easily identifiable themes. You could show the movie. Have students write down ideas of what they think the theme is. NExt, take their ideas to a cooperative group of 5-6. They discuss further and rewrite the group's idea for theme and present it to class. By the way, make them tell you why. One key to quality education is having students identify evidence that leads to their opinions.

Looking deeper into literature is hard for some.
