I always pick up a package of markers or colored pencils for every student when the back-to-school sales are going on in stores in July/August. I usually find Crayola markers or colored pencils under $1, even as low as 88 cents. It costs about $20 for the whole class and they really like it because their stuff is starting to get icky by now.
