What I do
By Jennifer

Clip to ScrapBook
I use literature circles in my class. The students love it. I divide the class into four different groups. I have four different titles of books, and pass one title book to each group. I usually keep the groups on a level,
this way I know what book they should get.

I have jobs that I assign each person in each group. I spend the first few days having the students read their book. After reading a few days the students can start on their jobs. SOme of the examples that I have to use are the following:

connector
illustrator
scene setter
word finder
character
cause / effect (I usually

give these only to my gifted group righ now).
etc....there are many different activites to use.

Each studeent in each group will have a differnt job. The groups fill out their job, and present their job to their group like a "book club". I walk around and listen in on the groups to check for particiaption and comprehension on the book. I actually have the students do a self evaluation on themselves are well as their goup members.

The kids seem to enjoy it. I switch the jobs around so they don't always get the same one each time.

Hope you can get a visual here, it is hard to explain.

Good luck
