Advice
By Kerry

Clip to ScrapBook
As a first year teacher, I definitely recognize your desire to people-please. After many years, you'll still have that desire but not the way you do now (and by the way, we've all been in your shoes as a new teacher!) Because
your principal is totally supprtive as are your co-workers, the best advice I can give you is to just shrug it off. There are some parents who absolutely THRIVE on irritating teachers, blatanly disregarding rules/regulations, and being plain rude. It sounds like you've gotten your first dose. There isn't really anything you can do other than treat this kid with respect like you
would anyone as well as hold him responsible like you would any other. Also, if they are so upset regarding apparently not knowing about the rubric, simply send another home, with the part about the limited size highlighted. It's really all you can do. I'm sorry you have to deal w/ this your first year but believe me, it gets a lot easier!
