sick
By Lynn

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach K and am a first year teacher. I had a boy start to throw up every morning three weeks into school. After calling his mother three days in a row, she told me that he was making himself sick to go home. She told
me that she was not coming to get him unless he was truly sick. This began what I refer to as the trash can boy. He was told that he would not be able to call home for throwing up anymore. (I told him that there was a virus going around that the doctor couldn't fix with medicine and it was Ok to stay at school). I moved him to the back of our room and gave him his own personal trash
can. It took about a week of him throwing up back there before he realized he wasn't going home. Some mornings it was all I could do not to join him over the trashcan but my stomach has gotten stronger! He is now fine with the throwing up but can't stop talking. I guess you get rid of one problem and find a new one. PS No one teaches how to deal with those "parents" in your college classes.
