sick By Lynn

I teach K and am a first year teacher. I had a boy start to throw up every morning three weeks into school. After calling his mother three days in a row, she told me that he was making himself sick to go home. She told| me that she was not coming to get him unless he was truly sick. This began what I refer to as the trash can boy. He was told that he would not be able to call home for throwing up anymore. (I told him that there was a virus going around that the doctor couldn't fix with medicine and it was Ok to stay at school). I moved him to the back of our room and gave him his own personal trash | | can. It took about a week of him throwing up back there before he realized he wasn't going home. Some mornings it was all I could do not to join him over the trashcan but my stomach has gotten stronger! He is now fine with the throwing up but can't stop talking. I guess you get rid of one problem and find a new one. PS No one teaches how to deal with those "parents" in your college classes.
