Quiet sign
By Michelle

Clip to ScrapBook
I definitely agree with the quiet sign (making a peace sign and putting your hand up in the air) being used for fifth grade, but not the clapping pattern. I have been told by many teachers and administration that clapping is just not appropriate for the older grades. Remember, many of these children will be going off to middle school next year, do you really think any of their teachers are going to clap to get their attention? I have taken a long-term leave position in a fifth grade classroom this year and I know how immature my students can be, my goal is to draw them away from the baby syndrome and get them ready for middle school. I love the RECESS and OUTSIDE idea for a sub to use in my classroom, thqat would really get their attention.
