mummified apples
By Sophie Obertance

Clip to ScrapBook
this link has the activity:
http://www.ktca.org/newtons/13/mummy.html

I did it three years ago with a sixth grade class and it is still one of my favorites. I had them weigh the apples everyday and then record the weight and describe it (feel, look, etc.) After one week, students took weights and created a graph (math component), wrote about the affects of science on the apple and why it happened (science) and connected it to the mummifying process (Social Studies)and the writing ties in the literacy.
Enjoy
