Some insight
By Willette

Clip to ScrapBook
Before we start circle time every morning we have our children skip, gallop, power-walk, and run around outside (teacher directed)8-10 minutes. This kind of takes care of the sugar meals they might of had for breakfast. Every
45 minutes throughout the day for about 3 minutes we do different body movements such as balance, swing, stretch, squat etc to different types of music. Upbeat music to motivate, and slow or mood music for calming.

Another success for us is using and modeling very calm soft voices when ansy behavior is happening. Consistent daily reminders and modeling of 5 star seating: eyes on

the speaker, body still, hands free, ears open, and mouth closed.

Alot of times kids who move around alot are hands-on-learners, and engage more in that style of learning. Using puppets or different voices of family members (mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, girl, boy, or baby) in giving instruction or lesson grabs their attention.

In closing, alot of children today play x-box, nintendo, watch tv, videos and such, all which display aggressive behavior and trigger aggressive or inappropriate response. These sorts of entertainment have become permanent baby sitters, which no longer allow appropriate interactive conversations or behaviors with adults that help to increase literacy and or social skills. HEllo, and we haven't even mentioned the extra luggage that some of these children bring with them from their own homes. Hang in there, for some we are their only hope, only security, and only ones who really care. Aloha from Hawaii...
