clay trees
By Anne

Clip to ScrapBook
Sorry Silvana, I just checked back and found your message.
I give the kids a piece of clay about their fist size. I show them how to roll it into a "fat log", stand it on end and tap it in the table surface to give it a base. Then I show them how to shape the top into a point, and then using their thumbs and index fingers, how to pinch out branches. They usually just end up making little ridges all over the tree, but that's ok. You'll have to keep reminding them to keep the tree top erect.(my teacher associate always winks at me when I talk to the kids about keeping it straight up!)
I don't fire these, I just let them air dry for about three days and then paint and add sparkle when still wet. Hopefully you still have time to do this.
