Another 2nd Career Teacher Here
By VWG

Clip to ScrapBook
I am currently finishing my masters in Ed as I substitute teach. I am in my 40s.

I worked in a managerial position in a creative environment for well over a decade. No matter where you go you will have to deal with politics
that at times may give you heartburn or a stomache or much, much worse.

As a teacher, you are in a room with your own class all day. As a manager, ALL day long you are interacting directly with the same adults that are giving you agita. You can't tell the adults to take their seats or take a time out (although that's the least of what you are thinking!). You need to get in

as early as a teacher, and leave much, much later under watchful eyes.

You are very lucky if you get more than 2 weeks off a year...and you have to feel guilty about asking for it, and are scheduling it around other people.

Until I started my new career, I never even understood why some people asked me how my summer was. It was hot, what else would it be? There is no feeling of being "off" in summer months, or holiday times.

I am glad for my background in business as I cannot forget that I felt like I was let out of prison the day it was over.

Nothing's perfect, but some things are a lot better.
