Clip to ScrapBook
This is a hard idea for most of us to get our head around, especially when starting to implement a Balanced literacy approach in the classroom. If you look at the work of Hill and Crevola, the core belief and understanding
that their Balanced literacy approach is based upon is that all students can achieve high standards, given sufficient time and support. So, what is hard for teachers to understand is that this does not equate to equal time for all students. You need to spend every day with your lower readers because they need that extra time. However, your higher readers can achieve with less of your
time and only need to read with you one or two times a week. Parents may have a problem with this, but if you stand by the belief that all students can achieve high standards, then this is what you need to do.
