I agree with the age factor. The child I referred to in my post is 15+. Fortunately, we do have the facilities to meet his needs. He is currently in our alternative program and on half days. Since there is noone at home that wants him there for the other half day...the assistant principal made him her helper. Both the alt. teacher and the asst. principal are compassionate women. Children's Services stops in twice a week to talk/check with him. He will probably be okay this year...if he survives home over winter break. The summer could quite possibly do him in. There are just too many children in his shoes and not enough teachers, social workers or counselors to meet their needs.
