The fact that he told you that you are respectful makes me think that he meant nothing by the remark. Perhaps he merely thinks the kid needs a screamer in his face and just knows that's not your style. The parent situation| is hopeless. After 12 years of teaching, you know that it's only gotten worse and will continue to do so. We have Progress Report Pick Up in the middle of each grading period. Thursday was it. I had a lot of parents come but they are usually the wrong ones. I hate to say this, but teaching in the area of the city that I do brings in uneducated, uncaring, often drunken, parents. | | I admire the fact that some are willing to be involved. Very few parents are the child's biological parents...there's always a "step" parent. Those that yell, lie, appeal suspensions, and only show up occasionally to exhibit this behavior have noone fooled. They have been sitting around for years, living off of the system, NOT being a parent...and they think that flexing their muscles every so often makes them look like they are doing their job. If they had been a parent to begin with they wouldn't have to act like idiots now. The most horrible parent that I've ever met is not allowed in our school. There are restraining orders against her. Her 13 year old daughter is manageable..but can crack at any time over anything. Mom smoked crack throughout her pregnancy. When she was 6 months pregnant she tried to kill herself by downing a full prescription of barbituates. They brought her around, and institutionalized her for the remainder of her pregnancy under constant supervision. She is a "frequent flyer" at our rehab center in town. (court ordered of course). I hope all works out for you. You know that you can't change a thing about the principal or the parents. Try to learn to "not care" about what they have to say. You know that all is well, which are lies, etc. God Bless.
