Violence in student writing & the web
By carrie

Clip to ScrapBook
This is a very difficult thing! I would definitely say that you should make sure you let your administrators know what is going on. Something as serious as this should definitely not be overlooked! Just recently, I had my
sixth grade students submit a project on genetic disorders. One of my boys submitted his report with a picture that was very inappropriate. It made me think of the risks of the internet.
In school our computers have blocks but what happens when these kids go home. Are there parents there to watch what sites they access? Are there blocks on the computers or are they able to access
anything they want? Well, this experience was a big eye-opener for me. Although I have given lessons on appropriate and accurate websites, I believe we are living in an age that we run a risk of all of these terrible things. Immediately after I received this paper I sat down with my Assistant Principal and discussed the necessary measures I should take regarding this matter. I called the parent immediately and also spoke to the student.

Make sure you speak to your supervisor; this is not something that should be overlooked!
Good Luck!!
