whole different mindset here
By Stacia

Clip to ScrapBook
I was rereading this post again and it dawned on me what the difference here really is. Most people on this board want to know how they can punish the kid to get them to comply with what they want them to do. I don't look
at disicpline like that at all. I look at it as how I can change the curriculum to motivate them about learning. How do I meet the same curricular goals - but in a different way - a way that accesses the kid's strength. More challenging, yes, more time consuming, yes - but I think overall well worth it.

I think it's helpful to think about the goal of education for these hard to

motivate children (or for any child for that matter).

Is the overall goal of education 'to find the right punishment - to make the kid listen to me and do what i say?'
or is it 'to meet particular curricular goals'?

I prefer the latter statement.
