The main form of discipline I use is taking care of discipline before something happens. I make sure my schedule is predictable and appropriate. I make sure I balance active and quiet times of the day. I make sure I have| activities and play materials that reflect the variety of strengths and interests in my classroom. I make sure I really get to know these children. I make sure I have interesting, motivating lessons and experiences for the children to be doing. If I did have a student unmotivated to complete a task, I find out where the child's strengths are and I use that to motivate and interest | | the child in the experience. For example, I believe someone asked about a first grader who was drawing on his paper. It sounds like he likes to draw. I would have word problems and math activities that would involve drawing, diagraming, venn diagrams, and glyphs. I'd use that interest to motivate him to complete the math objectives I would give him. If a student wasn't completing their work during worktime, I'd find out how to motivate the student so they will complete their work. Whether I'd sit beside them, give them encouragement, etc. My students are engaged in a lot of project work etc. and they generally are very interested in their work. Their independent works is centered on what they need, so each of their work looks a little differently
