HI
I don't know where you live but I learned the hard way to get my student teacher's home phone #...we had a snow day and I didn't know how to contact the student...oops.

Be clear with your expectations. If you expect
the student to be there at 8 say so and likewise if you expect them to stay for 1/2 hour after school or what ever is expected by contract then tell them so. I had a student teacher who thought she could leave with the busses. It was a very rude awaking to her to discover we had to stay for x amount of time.

Be sure to talk about confidentiality on day one and what exactly that means.

Give him/her a school handbook or a new parent information packet...they often have lots of interesting information.

Make sure your student knows your discipline policy and what you expect her/him to do and how to do it. Likewise make sure your current students know that they must respect and follow the directions of the student teacher.

Set up a meeting day/time where you get together either before or after school to discuss what's going on and how things are going. Stress that you expect him/her to make mistakes and to ask questions often....and that no question is too silly to ask.

talk about dress code if your school has one especially emphasising no jeans if that's what your school does. It has amazed me in recent years what student teachers think is acceptable clothing for school.

I'm sure you'll enjoy this new experience...good luck
