I would not go to the parent. Obviously they are too chicken to approach you themselves about the problem, and went over your head instead. If the principal pushes the issue, then I would have the principal tell you who the child is, so that you can properly defend yourself. If the principal doesn't say anything else about it, then I would drop it as well. If the principal doesn't bring it up again, then it's probably safe to assume that the principal doesn't really believe the parent anyway.
