Shut up
By anon

Clip to ScrapBook
I cannot stand to hear kids nor adults say shut up. I think it is so disrespectful to anyone! I'm sad that you feel that way about children. I love children, and I feel it is our place to teach them to be respectful not
dislike them if they aren't. Kids these days have way more stress in their lives then we ever could have in the "good ole" days. The reason is the parents not the kids. Some parents baby them so they never lived like they did which means they weren't satisfied with what they had growing up. Some parents ignore them because they don't know what to do with them. I do not know what grade
you teach but I think you should put yourself into the place of many of the kids in the KCMO school district. Parents that can't get jobs or parents that work at night. Some of these kids never see a parent figure. They have murders on their streets, drive bys in their houses, and no one to just talk to. You may be the only adult figure they see in one day. Treat them with respect and model the behavior. No that doesn't mean things will be easy because they will be very difficult! It is my opinion that anyone that cannot over look these things or posts that they dislike children need to just get out. Yes, kids aren't the same but if you cannot work with that and begin to dislike children, then you should not be working with them. I am sorry things are rough for you. There are many problems with the KCMO school district. Money being mishandled. Bad decisions on the administration's part. Difficulty finding teachers. Challenging students. However, no matter what goes on around you these kids need love and caring more than a grade on a state test. I, firmly, believe if you spend the first few months showing them you love and care for them and teaching them respect, you will begin to see higher test scores anyway. However, until you overlook their attitudes and love them anyway, you will see no improvement! They will also not want to listen to a word you say. Good luck to you. I will be praying for you.
