Clip to ScrapBook
I use the rubber band concept also, although just a little differently. I intro the idea to them by demonstrating how a rubber band stretches and how it pops back when you release one end. Then we stretch a word to "sound
it out" and I use my hands. Those students who really need this tactile/kinesthetic process will usually copy me. The rest just say it. It is really odd! After str-e-tch-ing the word into its sounds, we "snap it back". This we do with a light clap. They love it! I have even seen students use it on their own. We also use the same process to spell the words. Then they "snap it
back" when it is completed. You can also use the idea of a slide. You slide one sound into the next, then into the next, etc. Try to discourage really choppy sounding. Some have a hard time hearing it if the sounds are too far apart.

Good Luck!!
