Long I sland - No jobs
By Rosemary

Clip to ScrapBook
I forgot to mention that several of the districts at the Long Island Educational Consortium were offering financial incentives. Hawaii was offering $4,500 for special ed teachers who were willing to relocate. It is paid
in installments. However, the cost of living in Hawaii is even higher than in NY and the salary is lower than Long Island salaries.

Los Angeles sent me a letter after they made the offer telling me that they had received a grant to offer a financial incentive to teachers that were willing to move to California and promise to stay for a few years.

Charlotte offered $1,000 if you signed

the contract. The cost of living is much cheaper in North Carolina.

I don't know your situation but if it is possible to relocate (even for 2 years to get some experience) it might be worth it. In 2002 I had an interview in The Sayville School District in 2002 and they told me that they had placed an ad in the NY Times and received 1,000+ resumes for a handful of elementary positions.
