Need to respond

I think that taking on a student teacher helps teachers more than it hinders them. I know many teachers, especially in the primary grades who love to take on student teachers for the extra set of hands. I also agree that
many teachers take on ST's for the wrong reasons: the college credits and a chance to sit back and do nothing for half a semster. This is wrong.

Do you know that cooperating teachers sell their college credits to make some extra money? Not only do they get to take it a little easy during this time when someone else is doing their work for them, now they are trying to make money off

the deal, unbelievable.

By the way, I am a third year teacher and have seen it all, all perspectives. I have also lived through some of the situations during my own student teaching. Should you get paid? No. Do you feel that you should while you are busting your butt during the semester? Of course, anyone would.

Connie, my advice to you, please don't take on any more student teachers. It seems that you are dreading on this one bad experience and you also seem to be making far too much work for yourself. I also worry that you feel that there are many risks when taking on a ST. I know everyones' opinion is different, but if I were you, I'd pass on the ST's for a while. You never know, you may miss them :-)

Good Luck to all of the student teachers out there and I truly hope you all have great experiences.
