Recess and to Stacia
By Absolutely!

Clip to ScrapBook
We are still waiting to hear your answer to the question asked of you. What consequences do your students have for misbehavior in the classroom? Just wondering since you haven't addressed that yet.

I am with my students
at recess. It is My responsibility, not anyone else on the playground. My class is VERY student directed. They have a LOT of time to work on social skills. They sit in groups, must work with that group. They have different groups at center time because they need to learn to get along with everyone. I work really hard at the beginning of the school year to establish a good community
for my students, with their help. My students have the responsibility for helping make rules in my classroom, however, they MUST learn that when we break a rule, there are consequences!! That is the REAL WORLD. Many of my students' parents are in jail or have been in jail. I must help these students set goals and boundaries. They MUST know that there are consquences for the poor choices we might make. Ultimately, they know the rules that we as a team have established and they know the reasons behind every rule! Therefore, if they misbehave, they have made their choice to sit out. Period. That is working on social skills too!
