Recess is a privelage.

Clip to ScrapBook
Recess is a privelage, not a right. I agree with you that students, especially younger students, need recess and exercise. It is a long day for them. However, I think that in certain cases, taking away recess is a consequence
that suits the crime. If a student hits another student or calls another student names, then they need to learn that is inappropriate. I find a good way to show them that is to not allow them to play with the other students. I tell them that they will not be allowed to play with others if they cannot treat them respectfully. Sometimes, I will let them go out for recess, but with
limitations. If they hit someone, they hve to play by themselves. If they pushed someone off the slide, they are not allowed on the playground equipment, etc. I would like to hear your alternatives for consequences instead of keeping them in for recess.
