Just keep trying.
By Out of place

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm not sure what you men about the backstabbing incidents. Were you backstabbing? If so, you should probably stop that. I just keep quiet when asked opinions about other teachers. I say,"Well, I don't really know him/her,
but they seem ok to me." Or I say,"Why?" and leave it at that. If it was the part of other backstabbers, I would just keep trying if I were you. Ignore the bad news that you heard through the grapevine, and just keep being friendly and open. A simple "Hi! How are you?","How is your day going?", "How was your weekend?", "Are you watching the game tonight?" will let the others know
you are trying. It's possible that they just don't really know what to talk to you about. After all, you are new, they don't know your interests or pastimes. I feel like the newbie all the time as a sub, and it's very disappointing each day in a new staff room when I am sitting there and nobody talks to me. I usually try to talk to whoever is closest. Sometimes, it works - as a matter of fact, I have conversations regularly at some schools with some teachers. Other times, it doesn't work. You win some, you lose some. Just remember, you have AS MUCH of a right to be there as they do. Good luck!
