handling the situation

Clip to ScrapBook
I think it was definately okay for you to ask the child about his reading list as well as follow up with the phone call to mom. It is also fine for you to remind him of your expectations concerning the reading at home. How will kids learn to be accountable unless we hold them accountable?
I used to have the same problems with reading at home. This year I started using a home reading log where the students write down a short reflection or summary about what they read and how many minutes they spent reading. It also has to be signed by the parent nightly. It has really helped. Check out Laura Candler's web site for a copy of a home reading log.
