on the spot
By gina

Clip to ScrapBook
I truly think that the child SHOULD have been questioned about this assignment. He SHOULD be put on the spot. If that is acceptable homework for a grade 2 student, then he should NOT be excused from it. If we don't expect students to complete assignments truthfully, at what point will they learn to do that? It's not as if responsibility, honesty and integrity just magically appear as a character trait at some point after grade 2. The teacher was right to question him and right to point out that bringing in a list of books he hadn't read is kind of like cheating. I think we do NO SERVICE to today's children by stating an expectation and then not expecting the behavior.
