signed test papers

I had a girl who brought back papers with an obviously forged signature. I talked to her and told her I was going to call mom. She replied that dad had signed it and that he was out of town. I called mom and she told me that she hadn't seen the papers. When I told her what her daughter had said about dad, she said that the dad probably did sign it and he had messy handwriting. I then asked why the dad signed her name! Why do some parents make excuses for bad behavior?
