I had a sixth grader who plaigarized an entire research paper. I told him he had to do it again, in his own words. Well, mom was in my room like a shot. She said, "What do you mean, those aren't his words?" I explained that no sixth grader could write as well as the professional whose words had been used for the paper. I pointed to about twelve words that her son had been unable to define when cornered. She snarled at me, "You mean he has to know what a word means before he can use it?"
