Contacting parents
By Janelle

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi. This must have been the worst experience for you. I always have a rule of thumb with beginning a school year. I write a letter of introduction of myself to the parents as well as a phonecall home. If parents feel comfortable with the teacher and respect them, the child will mimic this behaviour. If we create partnerships with parents even showing interest in them, the child will see that we are not teacher bullies who hate them. If for a moment we see one positive action, reward it. But in all cases, we need to also stay firm, especially at the beginning of the year.

Teaching is a hard adventure at times.
