The pay cut for me was tough, but I supplement by tutoring. Tutoring around here pays $25-$35 per hour. Whether reading, math, or specific subjects, seems like the mandated testing by states drives parents to get tutors for their kids at all levels. We also have several tutor centers that need teachers evenings, weekends, vacations, short-term, etc.

I made my decision to change careers a year and a half ago, am almost done with my masters, am certified, and loving it! I went to school at night while keeping my day job, and am teaching this year.

Math, Science, and special ed teachers are in short supply, and although they follow the same pay scales, job security is better in the long run!

Good Luck!
