Pre-K shapes are kept simple: circle, square, triangle. Rectangle isn't introduced until later, as it's shape is so similar to a square young children have a problem seeing the difference & the name is so similar to triangle, they easily get confused. We don't worry if they go to kindergarten confusing the two; recognition will come later. Other fun (and easy)shapes to learn are heart & star. Diamond may be another shape to introduce. Pre-K's can fool you - I once had a 4 year old who could easily identify all his shapes, even octagons & pentagons, but couldn't identify colors yet.
